Buchanan pair win the Puttock Trophy Pairs Competition.

Owd gets shouting

My apologies , headline should have read "Proud Vets outing"

Buchanan vets held their annual outing at the Rose and Bowl. Sixteen competitors took part in the event with John Heywood  as chief administrator and chaos controller , he also stood in when two of our least fit members needed a break.  Two injured members also attended. Mick Williams turned up on crutches, we suggested attaching a set of pegs to the ends of his crutches but realised there was no way for him to operate them. The other walking wounded was Paul Etchells who wasn't  going to miss out on a good meal.  Half way through the event  vets captain Malcom Holt set up a large target in the centre of the green, the object of the game was for all the bowlers take up a position at any point at the edge of the green and on the count of three attempt to land their bowl on the target, four bowlers succeeded and went on to the next round, none of whom  landed on the target, Malcom asked what they should do now. A vote was taken on whether the four try again or everyone was back in , surprisingly only four players voted for the four try again. Eventually we ended up with a winner , Billy Smart who claimed that justice had been served as he felt he had been unfairly treated in the first attempt, convinced his bowl was touching the mat until the mat was moved as people collected their bowls. The comp continued with the semi finals. Mike Storey and Peter Burt defeated top bowler Jack Mortimer and Chris Wells  7 -  4.  Malcolm Holt and Gerard Grogan  beat Billy Smart and Tony Parker 8 - 6. Congratulations go to Malc and Gerard on a 6 - 3 victory in the final. Well  done John and Malc on another successful event.
