Buchanan's Green is hosting a ladies inter Town match.
Buchanan;s hosted an inter town match between Bolton ladies and Burnley ladies, on Saturday 26th April. The match consisted of ten singles games, with first blood going to Bolton with an excellent performance from Elaine Norris winning 21 - 2, however Burnley got the upper hand with three players winning to single figures, Lisa Kerford 21 - 6, Pauline Ashworth 21 - 7 and Joyce Harrison 21 - 7. The other six games were fairly close with three games going to each team. Burnley coming out 6 -4 winners, 179 to 157. Both teams were impressed with the green and gave their thanks to Martin Chapman and his team.
Buchanans 'A'
'A' team Vs Seedfield 'A' has been rearranged from Mon 21st April to Monday 25th August. After a few spots of rain the teams ran for shelter and the match was called off.
Buchanan 'B'
The B team played host to Seedfield 'B'. Peter Burt got the team off to a terrific start with a 21 - 4 win over Susan Hobson. Henry Hall beat Trevor Candler Seedfield's number one over the last two seasons 21 - 15. John Heywood suffered the 'B' teams first loss. Beaten by Jane Houghton 21 - 12 . He put his loss down to a gruelling vet's game in the afternoon and spending less time than his opponent pumping iron in the gym. Game number four was a second loss for Buchanan, putting the match in the balance. In a closely contested game Graham Marland was beaten 21 - 18 by Seedfield's Jill Kershaw. Knowing that they needed to step up to the plate all of Buchanan's back four came good. Starting with an impressive 21 - 4 win for Lol Kent over Caroline Sutcliffe. Followed by another good performance from Cap't Mike Griffiths against Shirley Candler 21 - 10. The player of the match went to Alan Hinchcliffe with a stunning performance, a 21 - 3 victory against Martin Bennett. The last man up with another majestic 21 - 4 win was David Ormerod defeating Ken Bowers. Well done the B team, a little rain never puts Buchanan 'B' off.
A TEAM
Tue 22nd April Buchanan 'A' traveled to Waterfoot to face Gaghills 'A'. Team Capt Mick Gent arrived on time this week but no score card or list of team averages, it's hard work being Captain but I am sure he will get the hang of it. Craig Hall got Buchanan off to a great start beating Dave Riley 21 - 6 and putting himself at the top of the div averages. Well done Craig it would be great to see you there at the end of the season. The second game went to Gaghills. Craig Brennan put Buchanan back in front with a 21 -13 win against Jonathan Westwell. It went down hill from there on in. All four remaining games and the aggregate went to Gaghills, giving them an 8 - 2 victory. Buchanan's star player goes to Andy Gent who put up a great effort after being called in at the last minuet and probably not having bowled since god knows when, against Alison Hays getting to 19,
B TEAM
A complete reversal of last weeks result, with the B team coming away with a 9 - 1 victory over Tottington A. For two weeks in a row B teams star player goes to Mark Walmsley who beat Peter Crabtree 21 - 5. Notable mentions go to Henry Hall, Malcom Holt and Michael Holleran who all won with single figures against them.
C TEAM
The C Team were away at Edgworth to play there B team. Each team had four wins with Edgworth getting the aggregate by six points. We saw four very close games, Kathleen Hadjinicolaou 21 Vs George Etchells 19. Mike Mojsejew 20 Vs Geoff Taylor 21. Nigel Dickinson 19 Vs Edwina Patterson 21. Howard Hill beat Tony Downs 21 - 19. A very good performance came from Steve Kerruish with a 21 - 15 win. Buchanans star of match goes to Chris Wells who beat Gill Leach who was last years number two 21 - 19. Honourable mentions go to Paul Etchells , Geoff Taylor who both won 21- 15 and Chris Wells who beat Barbara Ratcliffe 21 - 9 promotion is still in your sights.
D TEAM
On Tuesday evening the D team traveled to Tottington Park tio play against their B team, it was a disaster, with the D team only managing 2 points. John Castle was the star player for the D team, with a 21 - 17 win over Anita Woodman. An honourable mention goes to Gerard Grogan who beat Tony Aspden 21 - 18. No hope of promotion for the D team with results like this. They currently languish at the bottom of the league table.
E TEAM
The E team playing at home, also suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Gaghills C . They also only had two winners. Team captain Alan Hinchcliffe was the player of the match beating Janis Spencer 21 - 7. A notable mentions goes to Lol Kent with a 21 - 10 victory over Tony Lord.
The E team are still in touching distance of a promotion place.
The second home game saw the Veyt's play host to Black Lane B Oon Monday 21st . John Heywood and David Ormerod got Buchanan off to a good start with a 21 - 10 victory over Les Jones and Dorothy Harlick. The second game up put Black Lane back in contention with a 21 - 9 win for Frank Livsley and Gordon Parkinson. A terrific performance from Stephen Howorth and George Etchells against Black Lane's Cap't Mary Lindsay and Dennis Dewhurst 21 - 3 saw Buchanan close the difference in the aggregate. Paul Etchells and Graham Marland continued the swing in favour of Buchanan winning 21 - 16. Half way through the game Buchanan still trailed on the aggregate by 11 points. Billy Smart and Lol Kent got off to a bad start loosing 3 in the first end, but as the game progressed encouragement for the opposition to get just one more point could be heard coming from Steven Howorth who was marking the card. with a second 21 - 3 win, the aggregate was now in Buchanan's favour. Game six saw Martin Chapman and Billy Grogan take on Dave Jack and Darren Nield. This time Stephen was joined by Billy Smart with encouragement for the opposition to get a couple more points, it was not to be, Martin and Billy Grogan became the men of the match with a stunning 21 - 2 victory. Top pairing of Peter Burt and Craig Hall had a close game coming off 21 - 18 winners. The final game went to Black Lane. Buchanan are now top of the league, with Billy Smart top of the league averages. The Capt. and Vice Capt. again played a pivotal role in this victory proving how valuable they are to the team.
KO CUP
Wednesday 23rd April saw Buchanan's play in the first round of the KO Cup away against Nuttall Park. Buchanan's won the first seven games, with notable performances from Peter Burt and Matin Chapman 21 - 3. Geoff Taylor and John Heywood, Ian Dean and Jack Mortimer both pairings winning 21 - 6. The next round is at home Vs Seedfield.
